Dr. Romanos is a Professor of Periodontology at Stony Brook University (SBU), School of Dental Medicine (SDM). Professor (Prof. Dr. med. dent.) of Oral Surgery/Implant Dentistry in Frankfurt/Germany; he is a former Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs (instrumental in the Accreditation of the SDM in 2013) and Director of Laser Dental Education at SDM; Fully trained in Periodontics, Prosthodontics, and Oral Surgery (Germany, USA); Board Certified in Oral Surgery and Implant Dentistry in Germany; Diplomate by the American Board of Periodontology; He is currently the President of the IADR Laser and Biophotonics Group and Past President of the Academy of Osseointegration Foundation and the Implantology Research Group of the IADR; Fellow of American Association for Dental Research, the Academy of Osseointegration, Int. College of Dentists, ICOI, ITI Foundation, Pierre Fauchard Academy; American Soc. Laser Medicine and Surgery, Great of NY Academy of Prosthodontics, Int. Academy  Dental Facial Esthetics and the American College of Dentists. 

Professor Romanos has global educational and research activities and served as Visiting Professor and Scholar in Brazil, Italy, Spain, Malaysia, and Utah/USA. He is the author of more than 450 publications and book chapters (h-Index: 83; over 22,000 citations), top 2% of scientists worldwide according to the AD scientific index 2022, 2023; editor and co-editor in eight dental books, the guest editor of the Periodontology 2000, volume 81 on Risks and  their Prevention in Implant Therapy” and has been a dynamic speaker in more than 700 presentations (> 50 countries); Recipient of numerous scientific awards like the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and the T.H. Maiman Award for Excellence in Dental Laser Research by the Academy of Laser Dentistry.  Professor Romanos is the recipient of numerous international research grants, research mentor of more than 200 mentees worldwide and participant in many scientific organizations as a board member or had various leadership roles. He is well known for his international concepts of immediate loading based on animal and clinical studies and author of two books in this field.

In addition, to research and scholarly efforts, he is actively involved in training, clinical and didactic teaching in periodontology, oral surgery, implant-, and laser dentistry in NY and Germany and practices in NY clinically in periodontology, implant-, and laser dentistry.

Immediate Loading for the Long-Term Success.  


Immediate Loading of dental implants is well recognized concept in implant dentistry.  

However, clinicians are not using this concept routinely in their practice. The lectures will provide the criteria and protocols to establish short- and long-term success. The speaker has done preclinical and clinical research in this field and will demonstrate a variety of protocols to provide crestal bone stability and excellence in clinical outcomes.
